RESPESCT IS ONE MEASUREMENT BEING A TRUE CHRISTIAN !!!

It is one of the beginning and measurement of being a true Christian. If you have that respect therefore you have LOVE. It tell and teach us from the ten commandmants if we heve to make it into two groups in all, the Love our Heavenly Father and parents and to love our Neighbors as we love ourself. Therefore the ten commandments is LOVE. In the absence of these Respect you become a great pretender to God, so enough for this as what God told us that not all who call God to enter in heaven.

If you have respect you never HARM anybody. It is always dangerous if you are carrying with your pride. Pride is the primary agent of sin it is where the devil like most from you. Since you are holding your pride once your pride is being touch you got easely angry and from that on sometimes you harm your neighbors, not only by hetting him/ her an object but also uttering bad words coming from your mouth. Yes after you realize what have you done just because of being a great pretender to God, you ask forgiveness to the Lord and to the your neighbors, yes you ask forgiveness but maybe the wound is healed but the scar remain. So careful the words coming from your mouth before.

If you have respect you become a GOOD LISTENER. Dont say that you are always right, you always believe that you are more intellegent than others and others have no talent like you. You pretend yourself to be ALL knowlegeable, until you become a great adviser but not knowing you reality who really are you. If you are married talk to your partner to harmonize and have a give and take idea in order to harmonize the family relation. See to it that before offering help to others, you situation at home is in order. You offer help to others but at home need so much help from you. Do not be good only to others.

If you have respect you are HUMBLE. Control your ego, if you serve God dont wait that people will praise you for what you have done to the church. Dont let the priests praise you until you neglect the primary obligation from the family, a real person in God will do family first. Dont be like an angel infront of others but a devil to the family. Dont offer always a volunter work to the chuch to please the priests but forgetting the obligation from home. In general dont be a great pretender. If you are a real Christian dont forget God say *If you want to serve me pick up the cross, FORGET yourself AND FOLLOW ME*.

Die letzten Dinge ...

DIE LETZTEN DINGE  von Pater Martin Ramm FSSP Nach einem sehr einschneidenden Erlebnis der letzten Woche, habe ich das Bedürfnis, ein paar Ausschnitte des oben vermerkten Büchleins an euch weiter zu geben .... eure Liliane °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° DIE LETZTE STUNDE ... Man kann versuchen, sie zu verdrängen, aber sie lässt sich nicht verdrängen. Kommen wird sie doch, und zwar für jeden, der diese Zeilen liest. Was immer man über Gott und das ewige Leben denken mag, der Tod fordert zur persönlichen Stellungsnahme heraus. Und wenn wir uns dieser Frage nicht stellen, stellt sie sich früher oder später uns: "Mensch, wo gehst du hin?" Viele Menschen leben so ganz ohne Hoffnung, so ganz ohne zu wissen, woher sie kommen und wohin sie gehen und was der wahre Sinn ihres Lebens ist. Das ist traurig! Die letzte Stunde eines Menschen auf dieser Erde ist die wichtigste Stunde seines Lebens, denn sie ist die Stunde der Entscheidung. Deshalb sollte die Sorge um eine gute Sterbestunde uns mindestens ebenso wichtig sein wie die Sorge um Gesundheit, Ansehen und Wohlergehen. Diese Schrift möchte daran erinnern, was der katholische Glaube über die letzten Dinge lehrt, und eine Perspektive zeigen, die über den Tod hinaus geht. Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass es die Wahrheit ist. Möge sie vielen zum Segen werden! DER TOD  Wie man sich zum Leben stellt, hängt sehr davon ab, wie man sich zum Tod stellt und was man danach erwartet. Erst im Blick auf das Ziel erhält das ganze Leben Richtung und Sinn. Man kann versuchen, den Tod zu verdrängen, indem man einfach so lebt, als ob es ihn nicht gäbe. Doch wer so handelt, betrügt sich selbst. Man kann auch am Tod verzweifeln. Dies geschieht meistens dann, wenn eine Verdrängung nicht mehr möglich ist. Viel besser ist es, der Wirklichkeit des Todes ins Auge zu schauen und daraus die richtigen Konsequenzen ziehen. Dazu werden wir aufgefordert, wenn wir am Aschermittwoch das Haupt neigen, um vom Priester das Aschenkreuz zu empfangen, und dabei die Worte hören: " Gedenke Mensch: Staub bist du und zum Staub wirst du zurückkehren!" Die richtige Einstellung zum Tod bewirkt eine seelische Entspannung. An die Stelle ängstlicher Ungewissheit tritt eine ruhige Erwartung, verbunden mit einem mächtigen Ansporn zu einem guten Leben    GEWISSHEIT  Dass Menschen sterben, wissen wir aus täglicher Erfahrung. Es sterben aber nicht nur die anderen, und es geht bekanntlich nicht immer nach dem Alter. Daran erinnert eindrücklich die Fürbitte bei der Beerdigung: " Lasset uns beten auch für den aus unserer Mitte, der zuerst dem Verstorbenen vor das Angesicht Gottes folgen wird." Wir werden alle einmal an der Reihe sein, denn wir alle haben eine sterbliche Natur. Die Kunst stellt den Tod als Sensemann mit einer Sanduhr dar. Wie der Sand unaufhaltsam rinnt, so vergehen die Tage und Stunden unseres Lebens. Wir erleben die Zeit als flüchtig. Und einmal wird das letzte Körnlein fallen. Dann kommt die grosse Ernte. " Des Menschen Tage sind wie Gras, er blüht wie die Blume des Feldes. Fährt der Wind darüber, ist sie dahin, und der Ort wo sie stand, weiss von ihr nichts mehr. Doch die Huld des Herrn währt ewig über allen, die ihn fürchten."  (Ps 103,15-17)   UNGEWISSHEIT    So sicher es ist, dass wir sterben werden, so ungewiss sind Zeit und Umstände. Es ist ziemlich sicher, dass wir in hundert Jahren nicht mehr auf dieser Erde weilen werden. Aber ob wir morgen noch leben werden? Der heilige Jakobus warnt vor einer falschen Sicherheit: "Hört doch, die ihr sagt: "Heute oder morgen werden wir in die und die Stadt reisen, dort ein Jahr verbringen, Handel treiben und Geschäfte machen. Ihr wisst ja nicht, was morgen sein wird! Denn was ist euer Leben? Ein Hauch seid ihr, der für kurz zu sehen ist und dann wieder verschwindet." (Jak 4,13 f.) Es bleibt uns also gar nichts anderes übrig, als einzugestehen, dass unser irdischen Leben sehr zerbrechlich ist. Das ist demütigend für den stolzen Menschen.    FORTSETZUNG UNTER ANWORTEN ...

Evangelium nach Johannes 4,5-42. 

So kam er zu einem Ort in Samarien, der Sychar hieß und nahe bei dem Grundstück lag, das Jakob seinem Sohn Josef vermacht hatte.
Dort befand sich der Jakobsbrunnen. Jesus war müde von der Reise und setzte sich daher an den Brunnen; es war um die sechste Stunde.Da kam eine samaritische Frau, um Wasser zu schöpfen. Jesus sagte zu ihr: Gib mir zu trinken!
Seine Jünger waren nämlich in den Ort gegangen, um etwas zum Essen zu kaufen.
Die samaritische Frau sagte zu ihm: Wie kannst du als Jude mich, eine Samariterin, um Wasser bitten? Die Juden verkehren nämlich nicht mit den Samaritern.Jesus antwortete ihr: Wenn du wüßtest, worin die Gabe Gottes besteht und wer es ist, der zu dir sagt: Gib mir zu trinken!, dann hättest du ihn gebeten, und er hätte dir lebendiges Wasser gegeben.
Sie sagte zu ihm: Herr, du hast kein Schöpfgefäß, und der Brunnen ist tief; woher hast du also das lebendige Wasser?
Bist du etwa größer als unser Vater Jakob, der uns den Brunnen gegeben und selbst daraus getrunken hat, wie seine Söhne und seine Herden?
Jesus antwortete ihr: Wer von diesem Wasser trinkt, wird wieder Durst bekommen;
wer aber von dem Wasser trinkt, das ich ihm geben werde, wird niemals mehr Durst haben; vielmehr wird das Wasser, das ich ihm gebe, in ihm zur sprudelnden Quelle werden, deren Wasser ewiges Leben schenkt.
Da sagte die Frau zu ihm: Herr, gib mir dieses Wasser, damit ich keinen Durst mehr habe und nicht mehr hierher kommen muß, um Wasser zu schöpfen.
Er sagte zu ihr: Geh, ruf deinen Mann, und komm wieder her!
Die Frau antwortete: Ich habe keinen Mann. Jesus sagte zu ihr: Du hast richtig gesagt: Ich habe keinen Mann.
Denn fünf Männer hast du gehabt, und der, den du jetzt hast, ist nicht dein Mann. Damit hast du die Wahrheit gesagt.
Die Frau sagte zu ihm: Herr, ich sehe, daß du ein Prophet bist.
Unsere Väter haben auf diesem Berg Gott angebetet; ihr aber sagt, in Jerusalem sei die Stätte, wo man anbeten muß.
Jesus sprach zu ihr: Glaube mir, Frau, die Stunde kommt, zu der ihr weder auf diesem Berg noch in Jerusalem den Vater anbeten werdet.Ihr betet an, was ihr nicht kennt, wir beten an, was wir kennen; denn das Heil kommt von den Juden.
Aber die Stunde kommt, und sie ist schon da, zu der die wahren Beter den Vater anbeten werden im Geist und in der Wahrheit; denn so will der Vater angebetet werden.
Gott ist Geist, und alle, die ihn anbeten, müssen im Geist und in der Wahrheit anbeten.
Die Frau sagte zu ihm: Ich weiß, daß der Messias kommt, das ist: der Gesalbte (Christus). Wenn er kommt, wird er uns alles verkünden.Da sagte Jesus zu ihr: Ich bin es, ich, der mit dir spricht.
Inzwischen waren seine Jünger zurückgekommen. Sie wunderten sich, daß er mit einer Frau sprach, aber keiner sagte: Was willst du?, oder: Was redest du mit ihr?
Da ließ die Frau ihren Wasserkrug stehen, eilte in den Ort und sagte zu den Leuten:
Kommt her, seht, da ist ein Mann, der mir alles gesagt hat, was ich getan habe: Ist er vielleicht der Messias?
Da liefen sie hinaus aus dem Ort und gingen zu Jesus.
Währenddessen drängten ihn seine Jünger: Rabbi, iß!
Er aber sagte zu ihnen: Ich lebe von einer Speise, die ihr nicht kennt.
Da sagten die Jünger zueinander: Hat ihm jemand etwas zu essen gebracht?Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Meine Speise ist es, den Willen dessen zu tun, der mich gesandt hat, und sein Werk zu Ende zu führen.
Sagt ihr nicht: Noch vier Monate dauert es bis zur Ernte? Ich aber sage euch: Blickt umher und seht, daß die Felder weiß sind, reif zur Ernte.
Schon empfängt der Schnitter seinen Lohn und sammelt Frucht für das ewige Leben, so daß sich der Sämann und der Schnitter gemeinsam freuen.
Denn hier hat das Sprichwort recht: Einer sät, und ein anderer erntet.
Ich habe euch gesandt, zu ernten, wofür ihr nicht gearbeitet habt; andere haben gearbeitet, und ihr erntet die Frucht ihrer Arbeit.
Viele Samariter aus jenem Ort kamen zum Glauben an Jesus auf das Wort der Frau hin, die bezeugt hatte: Er hat mir alles gesagt, was ich getan habe.
Als die Samariter zu ihm kamen, baten sie ihn, bei ihnen zu bleiben; und er blieb dort zwei Tage.Und noch viel mehr Leute kamen zum Glauben an ihn aufgrund seiner eigenen Worte.
Und zu der Frau sagten sie: Nicht mehr aufgrund deiner Aussage glauben wir, sondern weil wir ihn selbst gehört haben und nun wissen: Er ist wirklich der Retter der Welt.

Predigt über unseren Herrn und Jakob, über die Kirche und Rahel 

"Bist du größer als unser Vater Jakob?"

Der Anblick von Rahels Schönheit ließ Jakob irgendwie stärker werden. Er konnte den riesigen Stein von der Brunnenöffnung wegschieben und das Vieh tränken (Gen 29, 10)... In Rahel, die er heiratete, sah er das Symbol der Kirche. Deshalb musste er, als er sie küsste, weinen und leiden (V. 11), um durch seine Heirat die Leiden des Sohnes Gottes vorabzubilden... Um wie viel schöner ist die Hochzeit des königlichen Gemahls als die seiner Gesandten! Jakob hat um Rahels willen geweint, als er sie heiratete; unser Herr hat die Kirche mit seinem Blut bedeckt, als er sie rettete. Tränen sind das Symbol für Blut, denn sie strömen ja nicht, wenn man keinen Schmerz empfindet. Die Tränen das gerechten Jakob sind das Symbol für das schwere Leiden des Gottessohnes, durch das die Kirche der Nationen gerettet worden ist. 

Komm und schau auf deinen Herrn: er war bei seinem Vater und kam in die Welt, er entäußerte sich, um seinen Weg in Demut zu gehen (Phil 2, 7)... Er hat gesehen, dass die Nationen wie Herden waren, die Durst litten, und dass die Quelle des Lebens durch die Sünde wie mit einem Stein verschlossen war. Für ihn glich die Kirche der Rahel. Also lief er zu ihr hin, und schob die schwere Sünde wie einen Felsblock weg. Er legte für seine Gemahlin das Taufbecken, frei damit sie darin baden könne; er schöpfte Wasser, um die Völker der Erde wie sein Vieh zu tränken. In seiner Allmacht hat er die drückende Last der Sünden weggeschoben und für die ganze Welt die Quelle süßen Wassers erschlossen. 

Ja, unser Herr hat sich für die Kirche große Mühe gegeben. Aus Liebe verkaufte der Sohn Gottes seine Leiden, um für den Preis seiner Wunden die verlassene Kirche zu ehelichen. Für sie, die Götzen anbetete, litt er am Kreuz. Für sie lieferte er sich aus, damit sie ganz rein ihm gehöre (Eph 5, 25-27). Er willigte ein, die ganze Menschheit auf die Weide zu führen, mit dem großen Hirtenstab des Kreuzes; er weigerte sich nicht zu leiden. Rassen, Nationen, Stämme, Menschen aus allen Völkern, sie alle wollte er führen, um dafür die Kirche, seine Einzige, für sich zu haben (Hld 6, 9).  

Hochfest Maria Verkündigung

Hochfest Mariä Verkündigung Das Hochfest Annunziata, auch Nunti oder Ancilla genannt, feiert die Verkündigung des Herrn an Maria. Der Name Annunziata leitet sich von der lateinischen Bezeichnung des Festtags Verkündigung, Annunziatio, ab. Dies ist der Tag neun Monate vor Weihnachten an dem der Engelsbote Gabriel Maria mit dem Englischen Gruß die Geburt Jesu ankündigte. Maria spann dabei nach der Legende gerade das purpurne Garn für den Tempelvorhang, nach anderen Überlieferungen schöpfte sie gerade Wasser aus einem Brunnen. Das Fest wurde schon Mitte des 6. Jahrhunderts in Konstantinopel gefeiert, im 7. Jahrhundert wurde das Fest auch in Rom eingeführt und auf den damalige Frauentag gelegt; dieser Tag galt damals auch als Frühlingsbeginn. Martin Luther nannte den Tag eins der fürnehmsten Feste. In den orthodoxen Kirchen zählt er zu den zwölf Hauptfesten.  Den Rang eines Hochfestes der katholischen Kirche nimmt der Tag erst seit der Liturgiereform von 1969 ein.Früher begann mit diesem Datum ein neues bürgerliches Arbeitsjahr. °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° Der Engel des Herrn brachte Maria die Botschaft,  und sie empfing vom Heiligem Geist.  Gegrüßet seist du, Maria voll der Gnade; der Herr ist mit dir, gebenedeit ist die Frucht deines Leibes Jesus .. Heilige Maria, Mutter Gottes bitte für uns, jetzt und in der Stunde unseres Todes.Amen  Maria sprach: Siehe, ich bin die Magd des Herrn; mir geschehe nach deinem Wort. Evangelium nach Matthäus 17,1-9.

Sechs Tage danach nahm Jesus Petrus, Jakobus und dessen Bruder Johannes beiseite und führte sie auf einen hohen Berg.
Und er wurde vor ihren Augen verwandelt; sein Gesicht leuchtete wie die Sonne, und seine Kleider wurden blendend weiß wie das Licht.
Da erschienen plötzlich vor ihren Augen Mose und Elija und redeten mit Jesus.
Und Petrus sagte zu ihm: Herr, es ist gut, daß wir hier sind. Wenn du willst, werde ich hier drei Hütten bauen, eine für dich, eine für Mose und eine für Elija.
Noch während er redete, warf eine leuchtende Wolke ihren Schatten auf sie, und aus der Wolke rief eine Stimme: Das ist mein geliebter Sohn, an dem ich Gefallen gefunden habe; auf ihn sollt ihr hören.
Als die Jünger das hörten, bekamen sie große Angst und warfen sich mit dem Gesicht zu Boden.
Da trat Jesus zu ihnen, faßte sie an und sagte: Steht auf, habt keine Angst!
Und als sie aufblickten, sahen sie nur noch Jesus.
Während sie den Berg hinabstiegen, gebot ihnen Jesus: Erzählt niemand von dem, was ihr gesehen habt, bis der Menschensohn von den Toten auferstanden ist.

„Das ist mein geliebter Sohn“

Simon Petrus sagte: „Herr, es ist gut, dass wir hier sind!“ Was sagst du da, Petrus? Wenn wir hier bleiben, wer soll dann die Vorhersagen der Propheten erfüllen? Wer soll die Worte der Herolde  besiegeln? Wer wird das Mysterium der Gerechten zu Ende führen? Wenn wir hier bleiben, in wem sollen sich die Worte erfüllen: „Sie habe mir Hände und Füße durchbohrt“? Von wem handeln die Worte: „Sie haben meine Kleider unter sich verteilt und das Los um mein Gewand geworfen“? (Ps 21, 17. 19; Joh 19, 24) In wem wird sich erfüllen, was der Psalm ankündigt: „Sie gaben mir Gift zu essen, für den Durst reichten sie mir Essig“? (Ps 69, 22; Mt 27, 34; Joh 19,29) Auf wen soll der Ausdruck zutreffen: „Freigelassen unter den Toten“ (Ps 87, 6 hebr)? Wie sollen meine Verheißungen wahr werden, wie soll die Kirche erbaut werden?

Und weiter sagt Petrus: „Wenn du willst, werde ich hier drei Hütten bauen, eine für dich, eine für Mose und eine für Elija“. Petrus ist gesandt, in der Welt die Kirche zu erbauen, und möchte auf dem Berg drei Hütten errichten. Er sieht in Christus noch immer nur den Menschen, er stellt ihn mit Mose und Elija gleich. Jesus zeigt ihm aber bald, dass er keine Hütte braucht. Er war es ja, der 40 Jahre lang für die Väter ein Wolkenzelt erbaut hatte, als sie sich in der Wüste aufhielten (Ex 40, 34).  

„Noch während er redete, warf eine leuchtende Wolke ihren Schatten auf sie“. Siehst du es, Simon, dieses Zelt, das ohne jede Mühe errichtet ist? Es hält die Hitze fern, ohne dass es deshalb dunkel würde, ein leuchtendes, schimmerndes Zelt. Noch während die Jünger staunten, rief aus der Wolke die Stimme des Vaters: „Das ist mein geliebter Sohn, an dem ich Gefallen gefunden habe, auf ihn sollt ihr hören!“... Der Vater ließ die Jünger wissen, dass die Mission des Mose erfüllt war. Von nun an müssen sie auf den Sohn hören. Auf dem Berg offenbarte der Vater den Aposteln, was ihnen verborgen war: „der Ich-bin-da“ offenbarte den „Ich-bin-da“ (Ex 3, 14), der Vater gab seinen Sohn bekannt.

Evangelium nach Matthäus 4,1-11.

Dann wurde Jesus vom Geist in die Wüste geführt; dort sollte er vom Teufel in Versuchung geführt werden. Als er vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte gefastet hatte, bekam er Hunger. Da trat der Versucher an ihn heran und sagte: Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, so befiehl, daß aus diesen Steinen Brot wird. Er aber antwortete: In der Schrift heißt es: Der Mensch lebt nicht nur von Brot, sondern von jedem Wort, das aus Gottes Mund kommt. Darauf nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich in die Heilige Stadt, stellte ihn oben auf den Tempel und sagte zu ihm: Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, so stürz dich hinab; denn es heißt in der Schrift: Seinen Engeln befiehlt er, dich auf ihren Händen zu tragen, damit dein Fuß nicht an einen Stein stößt. Jesus antwortete ihm: In der Schrift heißt es auch: Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht auf die Probe stellen. Wieder nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich und führte ihn auf einen sehr hohen Berg; er zeigte ihm alle Reiche der Welt mit ihrer Pracht und sagte zu ihm: Das alles will ich dir geben, wenn du dich vor mir niederwirfst und mich anbetest. Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: Weg mit dir, Satan! Denn in der Schrift steht: Vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, sollst du dich niederwerfen und ihm allein dienen. Darauf ließ der Teufel von ihm ab, und es kamen Engel und dienten ihm.

Vom Wort leben, das aus Gottes Mund kommt

Der Retter antwortet dem Teufel: „Der Mensch lebt nicht vom Brot allein, sondern von jedem Wort Gottes“. Das will heißen: „Er lebt nicht vom Brot dieser Welt, auch nicht von der materiellen Nahrung, derer du dich bedient hast, um Adam, den ersten Menschen, zu täuschen, sondern vom Wort Gottes, von seinem Logos, der die Speise des himmlischen Lebens enthält“. Das Wort Gottes nun ist Christus, unser Herr; so sagt auch der Evangelist: „Am Anfang war das Wort, und das Wort war bei Gott“ (Joh 1, 1). Wer sich also vom Wort Gottes ernährt, braucht keine irdische Nahrung mehr. Denn wer sich mit dem Brot des Herrn stärkt, kann nicht das Brot dieser Welt begehren. Denn Herr hat sein eigenes Brot, oder besser: der Herr ist selber Brot; das lehrt er uns, wenn er sagt: „Ich bin das Brot, das vom Himmel herabgekommen ist“ (Joh 6, 41). Und von diesem Brot spricht der Prophet, wenn er sagt: „Brot stärkt das Menschenherz“ (Ps 104, 15).

Was soll ich mit einem Brot, das der Teufel anbietet, wenn ich Brot habe, das Christus austeilt? Was soll ich mit einer Kost, die Ursache ist für die Vertreibung des ersten Menschen aus dem Paradies? Einer Speise, durch die Esau sein Erstgeburtsrecht verlor... (Gen 25, 29) und die Iskariot als Verräter kennzeichnete (Joh 13, 26f)? Adam hat das Paradies tatsächlich wegen etwas Essbaren verloren, Esau hat auf sein Erstgeburtsrecht wegen eines Linsengerichtes, und Judas auf seine Stellung als Apostel wegen eine Bissen Brotes verzichtet; denn in dem Augenblick, in dem er den Bissen Brot nahm, hörte er auf, ein Apostel zu sein, und wurde zum Verräter. Die Nahrung, die wir zu uns nehmen müssen, soll nicht dem Teufel, sondern dem Herrn den Weg bereiten; sie soll denjenigen, der sie zu sich nimmt, in einen Bekenner des Glaubens und nicht in einen Verräter verwandeln.

Der Herr hat Recht, wenn er uns in dieser Fastenzeit sagt, dass das Wort Gottes nahrhaft ist. Damit will er uns beibringen, dass wir unsere Fastenzeiten nicht mit weltlichen Sorgen verbringen, sondern mit dem Lesen heiliger Texte. Wer sich von der Schrift ernährt, vergisst wirklich den Hunger des Leibes; wer sich vom Wort Gottes ernährt, vergisst, dass er Hunger hat. Das ist die Speise, die die Seele ernährt und den Hunger stillt...: sie verleiht das ewige Leben und beseitigt die Fallstricke der teuflischen Versuchung. Das Lesen der heiligen Texte bedeutet Leben, und der Herr bestätigt es uns: „Die Worte, die ich zu euch gesprochen habe, sind Geist und sind Leben“ (Joh 6, 63).

The Word: "Jesus fasted forty days and forty nights and was tempted by the devil."

Matthew 4:1-11     Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And he fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." But he answered, "It is written, `Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" Then the devil took him to the holy city, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written, `He will give his angels charge of you,'  and  `On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, `You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'" Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them; and he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me."  Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! for it is written, `You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'" Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him. Meditation What motivated Jesus to spend 40 days and nights of solitude, prayer and fasting in the Judean wilderness? This desert landscape was largely uninhabitable and was full of dangers for anyone who dared to venture in it for long. Danger from scorching heat by day and extreme cold at night, danger from wild animals and scorpions, plus the deprivation of food and the scarcity of water. For the chosen people of Israel the desert was a place of testing, encounter, and renewal.  When the Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt, they wandered 40 years in the wilderness. This was seen as a time of purification and preparation for entry into the promised land. Moses went to the mountain of the Lord at Sinai and stayed there for 40 days and nights in prayer and fasting (Exodus 24:18). Elijah, after he was fed with bread from heaven, journeyed without any food for 40 days to the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19:8). Jesus journeyed without any food to the wilderness for 40 days to prepare himself for the mission that the Father had sent him to accomplish. Why did Jesus choose such a barren, lonely place for an intense and long period of sustained prayer and fasting? Matthew, Mark, and Luke tell us in their gospel accounts that Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness. Mark states it most emphatically: “The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness” (Mark 1:12). What compelled Jesus to seek solitude, away from his family and friends, for such a lengthy period? Was it simply a test to prepare him for his mission? Or did Satan want to lure him into a trap? The word tempt in English usually means to entice someone to do what is wrong or forbidden. The scriptural word used here also means test in the sense of proving and purifying someone to see if there are ready for the task at hand. We test flight pilots to see that they are fit to fly under all conditions, including times of adverse turbulence and poor visibility. Likewise God tests his servants to see if they are fit and ready to be used by him. On many occasions God tested Abraham to prove his faith and to strengthen his hope in God's promises. Abraham obeyed willingly even when God asked him to sacrifice Isaac, the son of promise. When the Israelites were sorely tested in Egypt for more than 400 years, they did not forget God.  They kept God's word and remembered his promise to bring them freedom from their enemies. Jesus was no exception to this pattern of testing. He went to the desert without food or shelter. Adam and Eve had everything they needed in the Garden of Paradise. But they ate of the forbidden fruit out of disobedience because they trusted in themselves rather than in God (Genesis 2:16-17; 3:1-6). They were cast out of Paradise and driven into the wilderness. Jesus freely enters the wilderness in order to regain Paradise for those who lost it. Jesus refuses food to show his dependence on the bread of heaven, the word of God, that would sustain him not only in his physical hunger, but in his hour of temptation as well. When Satan tempts Jesus to turn stones into bread, Jesus replies with the words of scripture, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Deuteronomy 8:3; Mt. 4:4). Where did Jesus find the strength to survive the desert's harsh conditions and the tempter's seduction? He fed on God's word and found strength in doing his Father's will. Satan will surely tempt us and he will try his best to get us to choose our will over God's will. If he can’t make us renounce our faith or sin mortally, he will then try to get us to make choices that will lead us, little by little, away from what God wants for us. Jesus was tempted like us and he overcame sin not by his own human effort but by the grace and strength which his Father gave to him. He had to renounce his will for the will of his Father. He succeeded because he wanted to please his Father and he trusted that his Father would give him the strength to overcome the obstacles that stood in the way. Luke says that Jesus was “full of the Holy Spirit” (Luke 4:1). When tempted by the devil Jesus did not try to fight his adversary on his own human strength. He relied on the power which the Spirit gave him. Jesus came to overthrow the evil one who held us captive to sin and fear of death (Hebrews 2:14). His obedience to his Father’s will and his willingness to embrace the cross reversed the curse of Adam’s disobedience. His victory over sin and death won for us not only pardon for our sins but adoption as sons and daughters of God. How can we overcome sin and oppression in our personal lives? The Lord Jesus gives us his Holy Spirit to help us in our weakness (Romans 8:26) and to be our guide and consoler in temptation and testing (1 Corinthians 10:13). The Lord gives grace to the humble who acknowledge their dependence on him (James 4:6) and he helps us to stand against the attacks of our enemy, Satan, who seeks to destroy us  (1 Peter 5:8-10; Ephesians 6:10-18). The Lord Jesus is ever ready to pour out his Spirit upon us that we may have the strength and courage we need to resist sin and to reject the lies and deceits of Satan. God wants us to “fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Timothy 6:12) with the power and strength which comes from the Holy Spirit. Do you rely on the Lord for your strength and help? “Lord Jesus, your word is life and joy for me. "Prayer Request for a Special Sister in Christ"

 

Dear brother sisters in Christ, A very special friend of mine is married to a man who is very cruel to her with words and actions. According to my friend, He does things on purpose to upset her and his words are cruel to her. She serves the Lord in ministry and the more she serves the Lord, the more cruel he becomes. After he does these things and says these things to her, he turns around and says she said it or did it. It has now become unbearable to my friend, as he keeps her in a state of bad nerves and a sick stomach. He talks to himself constantly, when he thinks no one is listening. It is not prayer because of the negative words being used and she has heard him cursing herself and others and waving his hands around violently. (It is as the spirit of witchcraft with its cursings). My friend who I love very much has now become afraid of him and has no where to turn but for others to pray for him to become convicted; and that the Spirit of Repentance comes into his heart, mind, soul and body. She is asking for prayers for him to have dreams about what he has done to her so his eyes will be opened. We need to bind this thing, that has taken over his mind, so that it can no longer take control of this man until deliverance can come. Amen? She wants prayer that he will see his own soul's condition and seek help and that pride is bound! A serious mental healing is very needed for this man. (I don't think, my friend deserve this kind of treatment.) May he be disciplined by our Living God in such a way that it brings him to repentance; that he is filled with the Holy Ghost and true Love of God as well as a mental healing for him in Jesus' name." I love you, my dear sister and am expecting a much needed miracle to flow through this man in Jesus' name! I know that this type comes out by nothing but prayer and fasting. HOW WOULD SATAN TEMPT JESUS IN 2011?

As we enter upon our Lenten Journey 2011, and as we listen once again to the Gospel of the First Sunday of Lent, we are reminded that as human beings we also are tempted frequently by Satan.

The Gospel for the First Sunday of Lent always focuses upon the temptations which Satan offered to Jesus. We are all familiar with the story and the outcome.

However, if Jesus lived in 2011 and was tempted by Satan, what would be today's points of temptation? Where would Satan take Jesus today?

Exactly where he tempts us to go: Straight to the internet.

With all of its great advantage as a marvelous font of information, knowledge, and connectivity, sadly the internet has also become infected with a terrible "virus"--the Satan Virus.

Let me propose three internet temptation "sites" where Satan might take Jesus, and let's reflect ourselves on whether we have been tempted similarly.

First internet site: Where can I exert personal power over others, becoming my own god? How can I get even with someone, or even demean and destroy their reputation? There are too many sites which allow people to attack others viciously, posting all kinds of dribble and hurtful stories and accusations. The only purpose here is to demean, belittle, and harm someone else and their reputation. It's called "cyber bullying" among other things, but can become so destructive that some people who are so victimized even take their own lives because they can't stand it anymore.

My Lenten Question: Have I ever done something like this--whether in jest or in a destructive manner? Do I fully realize that once I launch such destructive material into cyberspace it cannot be retrieved--ever? Then I need to renounce this form of destruction of others. This Lent, let's refrain from this sites as an act of fasting from evil. Our Lord Jesus Christ will bless us!

Second internet site: Where can I destroy the innate human dignity of another person, and exploit them as objects of sexual exploitation? Sadly, internet pornography has taken a massive and ugly grip on the internet, and led to sites of the crudest degradation of the human person. New activities such as "sexting" are increasingly replacing normal communications between people, degrading everyone involved.

My Lenten Question: Do I visit internet sites which focus almost entirely on sexual degradation of men? Of women? Of children? Then this Lent I must seek God's grace to say "no" to such perversion which destroys the dignity of the human person. This form of fasting from degrading evil will bring us a deeper freedom as children of God and as brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.

Third internet site: Where on-line do I squander my financial resources in addictive behavior that wastes money? Do I visit on-line betting sites? Do I respond to pop-up ads and buy things that I don't need? Do I waste my family's money with frequent purchases of the latest electronic gimmicks? Do I purchase endless numbers of Apps for my phone or laptop? Satan relishes our out-of-control internet spending since too often these purchases become my gods.

My Lenten Question: Am I an internet buying addict? Do I monitor my on-line purchases? Do I discuss these purchases with my spouse or friends? Do I set limits on the amount of time I am on-line? Do I understand that self-control in internet purchases is a true form of fasting? This Lent let's resolve to abstain from needless on-line purchases. One way to do that is to keep a piece of paper next to our computer, and when tempted to buy something, just write it down instead of making the purchase. Let a week go by and review the list; do I really need that item? In most cases, our response will be No.

LENT 2011 As we begin once again our Lenten Journey, may each of us be truly honest about our ventures into cyberspace and the internet. As a disciple of Jesus Christ, what changes do I need to make in my use of the internet? How can I abstain from the evil websites and focus more fully upon websites that uplift the human spirit after the example and model of Jesus Christ?

Recall those marvelous words in the Letter to the Hebrews: "Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus!" [Hebrews 12:2] If we use this Lent to keep our eyes constantly fixed on Jesus, then the temptations and the evil will fall from our sight.

Together let's make this a truly astounding Lent!!!

"The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone." (Mark 12:1-12) First Reading Tobit 1:3; 2:1a-8 I, Tobit, have walked all the days of my life on the paths of truth and righteousness. I performed many charitable works for my kinsmen and my people who had been deported with me to Nineveh, in Assyria. On our festival of Pentecost, the feast of Weeks, a fine dinner was prepared for me, and I reclined to eat. The table was set for me, and when many different dishes were placed before me, I said to my son Tobiah: “My son, go out and try to find a poor man from among our kinsmen exiled here in Nineveh. If he is a sincere worshiper of God, bring him back with you, so that he can share this meal with me. Indeed, son, I shall wait for you to come back.” Tobiah went out to look for some poor kinsman of ours. When he returned he exclaimed, “Father!” I said to him, “What is it, son?” He answered, “Father, one of our people has been murdered! The Word: "Like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand."

Matthew 7:21-27  "Not every one who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  On that day many will say to me, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works  in your name?' And then will I declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.'  "Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock;  and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.  And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it." Meditation What kind of foundation are you building your life on? When Jesus told the story of the builders he likely had the following proverb in mind: When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm for ever (Proverbs 10:25).  What’s the significance of the story for us? The kind of foundation we build our lives upon will determine whether we can survive the storms that are sure to come. Builders usually lay their foundations when the weather and soil conditions are at their best. It takes foresight to know how a foundation will stand up against adverse conditions. Building a house on a flood plain, such as a dry river-bed, is a sure bet for disaster! Jesus prefaced his story with a warning: We may fool others with our speech, but God cannot be deceived. He sees the heart as it truly is – with its motives, intentions, desires, and choices (Psalm 139:2). There is only one way in which a person’s sincerity can be proved, and that is by one’s practice. Fine words can never replace good deeds. Our character is revealed in the choices we make, especially when we must choose between what is true or false, and good or evil. Do you cheat on an exam or on your income taxes, especially when it will cost you?  Do you lie, or cover-up, when disclosing the truth will cause you pain or embarrassment?  A true person is honest and reliable before God, neighbor, and oneself. Such a person's word can be taken as trustworthy. What can keep us from falsehood and disaster?  If we make the Lord and his word the rock and foundation of our lives, then nothing can shake us or keep us from God's saving presence and help. Is the Lord Jesus and his word the sure foundation of your life? "Lord Jesus, you are the only foundation that can hold us up when trials and disaster threaten us. Give me the wisdom, foresight, and strength of character I need to do what is right and good and to reject whatever is false and contrary to your will  May I be a doer of your word and not a hearer only." Many people don't recognize the chances they have right in front of them to "change the world"... namely, sharing with the people in their lives what a difference the gospel makes.

The same challenge Jesus gave us in Matthew 28:18-20 is the same challenge I give you today.

You don't have to travel to another country to share this message. Just look in your own backyard and you'll find opportunities to change the world... one life at a time!




Prayer Challenge

Jesus, make me aware of the opportunities to change the world that are in front of me. Give me strength and courage to reach out to people in my own neighborhood with Your message.
