Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Genesis 18:1-15
Luke 1:46-47, 48-49, 50 and 53, 54-55
Matthew 8:5-17
A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture:
O Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. (Matthew 8:8)
The Centurion's prayer, often like ours, is from the heart and for the good of some great need. Jesus was amazed at the faith of this non-Jewish person. Jesus also knew His own people, how they would like a bigger show of power involved in the healing.
When we pray, we should remember this Centurion whose faith was so great that at Jesus' Word, the healing would occur.
When we pray to Jesus, He hears our prayers. Sometimes we just don't have faith enough to know that His answer is always the very best heartfelt touch of a loving God.
"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord." (Luke 1:46)
"For He has looked with favor on His lowly servant." (Luke 1:48)
O Lord Jesus, help me to always give you praise,
even when the results of my prayers I do not understand!
O Jesus, I know you love me, please help my unknowing!
